Through a partnership with the National Information Center of Earthquake Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, CSI has distributed free copies of SAP2000 and ETABS to over 250 engineering universities throughout India. By making cutting-edge technology available to India’s students and educators, CSI is helping to ensure that structures in India are engineered to resist the destruction caused by earthquakes. “This program has been a major breakthrough in terms of creating cutting-edge learning opportunities in India, and towards capacity building in the country for earthquake resistant design,” said Sudhir Jain, professor of civil engineering and dean of resource planning and generation at IITK. ETABS and SAP2000 are both considered the tools of choice among structural engineers worldwide. ETABS was named the Top Seismic Product of the 20th Century by the Applied Technology Council and Engineering News Record. Colleges and universities can obtain the software, free of charge, by
contacting NICEE at www.nicee.org.
